Guernsey Starter Kit

GUERNSEY STARTER KIT

Dear Kinfolk,

I have enjoyed passing on what I know about the Guernsey history.  My bucket list wish was to ignite a spark in one of Elmer and Madalena’s great-grandchildren to keep the stories alive for our future generations.

So, I am enclosing a “starter kit” for your Guernsey file.

Elmer J. Guernsey

These attachments are from Ancestry.com. for your future reference.

Guernsey Family Tree

The charts actually goes on many generations past the sheet I have enclosed.   Example, John Garnzey, born 1561 in England (no I did not mis-spell the Guernsey name, it later changed to Garnsey in Massachusetts and later to Guernsey.)  Madalena M. Honderick’s chart can be traced back to Ruprecht VonD Ren born in 1226 in Germany, married to VonHolhenlohe Branuneck of Germany.

In the future if you have questions or stories to tell about the Guernseys, just send me an e-mail and I will be glad to pass them on.

My next “who is my granddaddy” stories will be about the Anderson ancestry.   I realize these blogs may not be of interest to my Guernsey kinfolk,  so please feel free to unsubscribe.  If in the future I have additional information on the Guernseys I will notify each one of you.

The Guernsey blogs have brought me back in contact with many of my cousins, which I am most thankful.

Sincerely,

Jim Lee

Guernsey Review

GUERNSEY REVIEW

The Guernsey, who is my granddaddy blog, is now six months old and I am reminded of my earlier promise to you that these blogs will not become your “giant sleeping pill.”

Guernsey Cousins

Following cousin Dorothy Lee’s wish that the Guernsey legacy will carry on to our grandchildren and beyond, I hope these stories and pictures will ignite a flame when you reach the age of Curt, John, George and me.

Picture taken by Dorothy of her cousins, left to right. John Innes, Bill Caffey, Curt Guernsey Jr., Jim Lee Anderson, Pat Innes and George Innes.

The blog has produced some interesting questions.  I had no idea that Granddad Elmer J. had remarried after Grandmother Madelena’s death.  Questions still exist, who was the lady,  how long were they married?  I checked the Roger Mills Court House records and could not find  where there was a marriage certificate issued, however the 1920 census shows he was married?

Another unsolved mystery, the spelling of our grandmothers name?

Madelena May

Madalena

Madelena Lena

Cousin John Innes said his mother, Minnie’s, middle name was May.  My “guess” is Madelena May is correct.  Was Lena a nickname?  My mothers middle name was Lena.   Madelena’s gravestone simply reads  “Lena H.”

My favorite part of the blogs has been learning about the lives of our grandparents great-grandchildren.  What a talented group!

I am starting to run out of ideas and stories and pictures for the Guernsey blog.  I would appreciate your thoughts, questions, pictures etc.

Left to right. John and Dottie Innes, Bill and Jan Caffey, Curt Guernsey Jr., Jim Lee Anderson, Pat Innes, George Innes, Jane Anderson and Barbara Innes.

I will end with a quote from cousin Dorothy Caffey McGregor.  “None of the Guernsey men could have lived more worthwhile lives than my grandfather Elmer J. Guernsey and his sons, C.H. and Lowell (Mike).  And the family could not have produced finer ladies than E.J. Guernsey’s daughters, Luella, Alida, Minnie and Pauline.”

All my best,

Jim Lee
