Meet Your Cousins #4

Dear Family,

Today we will visit the children of our late cousin Gene Caffey  and his wife Margaret… Margene, Jolaine “Joey”,  and Lowell Eugene “Lee” Caffey.

Some of our fondest memories were when our folks would pack us up and head to Mangum, Oklahoma to visit Uncle Lee, Aunt Luella, and our three cousins, Dorothy Lee, Bill and Gene.

Caffey Descendants

Uncle Lee was my idea of a real cowboy.  He raised horses for the U.S. Army until they quit buying them in World War II.  He would take us to rodeos and taught us how to ride a horse.

Lee Caffey and Orren Anderson in their uniforms.

I remember Gene, age 10, getting bucked off and having a hard landing.  He told his dad “he was not getting back on that horse.”   Uncle Lee had a different idea and Gene got back in the saddle.

Marjorie, Jim Lee and Gene

Bill Caffey entertained us with magic tricks.  Gene was fun loving and always proved to us that he was the strongest (I never won a wrestling match with Gene and I am not sure John or George did either). Aunt Luella was a sweet lady that cooked and put up with us all.

Dorothy Lee, Gene and Luella

MARGENE CAFFEY (Gene, Luella, Elmer)  lives in Mangum Oklahoma.  Margene attended Louisiana State University.  She retired at a very high position as Deputy Director of the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation.  She now lives in Mangum, Ok. where her mother Margaret, sister Jolaine and brother Lowell all reside.

JOLAINE “JOEY” CAFFEY SMITH (Gene, Luella, Elmer)  lives in Mangum, Oklahoma.   She commutes to Altus, Oklahoma were she works for an orthopedic surgeon.  She and her husband, Don Smith, acquired a second home that they have turned into an antique store called Past Times.

Family get together in Mangum.

LOWELL EUGENE  “LEE” CAFFEY (Gene, Luella, Elmer).  lives in Mangum, Oklahoma.  Lee has his won automotive body shop and has a great reputation for his car painting skill.  He and his wife have three children.  I have a feeling he must be pretty special to have acquired the nickname “Lee.”

Until next time,
Jim

Meet Your Cousins #3

Dear Family,

This edition will include the children of my sister, Marjorie Anderson.   As you may already know, Marjorie Anderson married Bud Anderson and so her maiden and married names were the same.

Marjorie's children

SHARON ANDERSON (Marjorie, Alida, Elmer) lives in West Linn, Oregon.  Sharon was a graduate of Louisiana State University Medical School 1979 and residency at Harvard Medical Center 1985.  She continued at Harvard where she became an Asst. Professor of Medicine. After moving to Oregon she became Professor of Medicine, Chief, Nephrology at the Oregon Health Sciences Univ.  She has published numerous research papers and is considered one of the leading physicians in the field of Nephrology.  Sharon and her husband Ed Curtis enjoy living in Oregon where he has his own construction company.

ROBYN ANDERSON (Marjorie, Alida, Elmer) lives in Rock Hill, South Carolina.  Robyn works for a consulting company–Center for the Support and Child Welfare Professionals where she specializes in training.  Currently she is involved with the Eastern Regional Support Association and is their immediate Past President.   Her

Robyn, Amanda, Bill

husband, Bill Large, works for US Airways as a mechanic and is associate pastor of their church (eagerly looking forward to retirement). They both are proud owners of Harleys and ride as much and as often as the weather permits.  Bill is the President of the local chapter in South Carolina of the Sons of God Motorcycle Club, a Christian club seeking to spread the light in the often dark world of bikers!

Amanda

The picture of the beautiful red-head is their daughter Sharon “Amanda” a licensed beautician who uses her great creative talents to make many women (and men) beautiful.

Robyn, Andrew

Their son, Andrew, 24, in the picture with Robyn, is a talented musician, plays the guitar for entertainment and in the church’s worship team and works for the state of South Carolina.  He is entertaining the thought of returning to college to pursue his dream of writing.

Art Lee

ARTHUR LEE ANDERSON (Marjorie, Alida, Elmer) lives in Portland Oregon.  Art is an award winning Lapidary and Gemologist.  Art Lee is retired, his company’s name was Speria Gems.  His work has been featured in GEMS AND GEMOLOGY MAGAZINE and the LAPIDARY JOURNAL.  A number of years ago he won first prize of 10,000 deutsche mark in a German gem-cutting competition (see the attached picture).  My favorite quote from Arthur is “I used to have this fantasy of walking into a Beverly Hills party and seeing one of my stones hanging on the neck of some glamorous woman, now my fantasy is to se it on the finger of a waitress in a greasy spoon in Arkansas, set in a little $30 ring, that means allot to her.”  Art’s daughter Tanya is a student living in Bend, Oregon.
